The Ikaare Community is located along the coast of Lagos, accessible solely by boat due to its position. This community is divided into Ibasa and Ikokuns, which both boast significant populations. Owing to their remote location from the Lagos mainland, the community faces restricted access to essential healthcare and other basic amenities. They have persistently advocated for government support in healthcare provision.
The TESS Foundation Africa sent a team of medical experts to the community. The journey from the Lagos mainland to Ikaare took approximately forty minutes (40 minutes) by boat. The medical team carried out a comprehensive evaluation of the community’s healthcare needs, pinpointing areas where assistance was most required. The medical team then offered consultations, screenings, medications, health awareness, and humanitarian aid to address these needs.
Unfortunately, ten individuals required additional diagnosis and treatment, necessitating them to travel a considerable distance for those services.
The Tess Foundation’s long-term objective for the Ikaare community is to establish a sustainable healthcare system, ensuring that the healthcare needs of the people are met and that the community’s health status improves over time.
The team’s efforts were recognized by the community, which expressed gratitude for the assistance provided and pledged to continue working together to improve the healthcare system in the community.
