Most rural marginalized communities lack access to potable water supplies, leading to exposure to contaminated drinking water. This dire situation has a detrimental impact on their health, resulting in the persistent outbreak of diseases such as cholera and diarrhea. At TTF Africa, we recognize the urgent need to address this issue and have implemented various strategies to make a positive impact in rural communities, particularly in the area of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).
Our approach in addressing this concern:
- Building of adequate water facility (Boreholes): By providing access to clean water, we not only improve the community’s overall health but also mitigate the risk of waterborne diseases. This approach ensures that clean water is accessible to all community members. We also designate community leaders to manage the boreholes and ensure their long-term viability.
- Rehabilitation of dilapidated sanitation facilities: In many rural regions, a significant number of sanitation facilities suffer from partial functionality or poor condition. The communities lack the motivation to maintain these facilities properly. In response to this issue, we are actively involved in renovating and upgrading outdated sanitation facilities and boreholes in our beneficiary communities.
Additionally, we are working towards establishing systems that ensure the appropriate and sustainable maintenance of existing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities. Central to this approach is community involvement, as we believe it is crucial for the long-term success and effectiveness of these initiatives. - Health Education: We promote better hygiene and sanitation practices through health awareness campaigns conducted in public gatherings, marketplaces, and transport hubs. These campaigns aim to raise awareness and educate community members on the importance of good hygiene practices, ultimately contributing to a robust healthcare system and improved overall health outcomes. We are committed to creating resilient communities that have access to safe and clean water supplies and proper sanitation facilities.
